Right outside the doors of Capital Kitchen lies a unique surprise: Peel Plaza, created by Dutch-American artist Gabriel Lester. At first glance, it’s an urban oasis—but look closer, and you’ll see a work of art that captures both movement and stillness. 

Peel Plaza isn’t just a sculpture. It’s an invitation—to pause, to look, to experience.

Gabriel Lester views cinema as the ultimate art form, where everything comes together: music, photography, literature, fashion, architecture, and even make-up. That versatility defines his work. 

With a background in electronic music, Lester plays with samples, sequences, and time. Peel Plaza is what he calls a “stopped movie”—like throwing a sweater into the air and freezing it mid-flight. The movement halts, but remains alive. 

This artwork is more than an object; it’s an urban oasis. A place to pause, meet, and share stories—like a campfire, just without the flames. For Lester, art only truly comes alive when people put it to use.

Just like our tonka bean crème brûlée, Peel Plaza is about layers and contrast. The crisp caramel top that cracks to reveal a soft, warm center mirrors the way the artwork reveals new details the longer you look.
